Ricky Hatton's promoter Frank Warren has confirmed that his charge's bout against IBF light welterweight Kostya Tszyu champion is "definitely on".
But the promoter told BBC Sport that there were still details to be ironed out, including the date and venue.
Russian-born Australian Tszyu said the fight would go ahead at Manchester's MEN Arena at 0400BST on 5 June.
He said he was "excited" by the fight, but was disappointed not to be facing WBC holder Arturo Gatti.
But Warren is still considering a switch to an outdoor venue.
And he told BBC Radio Five Live that he would be negotaiating for an earlier slot to serve the British prime-time market.
"The fight is definitely on and I'm absolutely delighted that they have announced that they have agreed terms.
"The only problem is, no-one has phoned me to tell me."
Tszyu described Hatton as a "worthy challenger", but could not hide his frustration that boxing politics were determining his career path.
He is contracted to American network Showtime while his preferred opponents, including Gatti and Cory Spinks, are with rival company HBO.
"It is very disappointing. I think a fight with Gatti would be sensational but somebody thinks differently," Tszyu told
www.secondsout.com.
Tszyu will reportedly earn at least $5m (£2.7m) for the bout and is considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, having lost just once in 32 bouts.
He insisted his skills were in no way diminishing, even at the age of 35.
"The reason people who have got success start losing is because of a drop in their focus on training," Tszyu told the Sydney Morning Herald.
"The last chapter in my book has not been written and I don't know what kind of chapter it is going to be, but I am excited.
"I will be hungry to train and hungry to fight and prove to all the Pommies I respect the guy a lot.
Hatton, 26, has won all 38 of his pro bouts, successfully defending his lightly-regarded WBU title 15 times.
