News Anchor: In other news today, the Arizona Diamondback’s new general manager will be Boston assistant general manager and Harvard graduate Josh Byrnes. Let us send you to outside Arizona’s Bank One Ballpark where a press conference is being held for Byres.
**President Rich Dozer steps to podium**
RD: Welcome media! It is a pleasure to have such a beautiful day out here so that we could hold this Press Conference outdoors. Have you guys seen a more beautiful day than this? (Looks at reporters in a smiling way) Oh, my fault we have a press conference to get underway. Without any more comments, I would like to present CEO of the Arizona Diamondbacks’ baseball club Jason King.
**King steps up from seat and gets in front of the mike**
JK: Hello everyone. Again we are fortunate to have such a nice day out here to hold this press conference outdoors. Now to get to the point. As many of you know, the second general manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks’ franchise history has been named unofficially. Well today it is my job to make the announcement official. The second Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks’ will be former Boston assistant general manager Josh Byrnes. Now before I turn the podium over to Josh, I would like to say a few words. My fellow co worker and I, Rich Dozer, spent hours reviewing each interview that we had. And Josh impressed us the most. His professional manner, knowledge for the game, and enthusiasm to be general manager earned him this job. He promised Dozer and me that his job was to put all of his effort into making Arizona a premier baseball franchise. Without any further ado, I would like to present to you the second general manager in Diamondbacks’ history: Josh Byrnes.
JB: Well first off, I would love to thank Mr. Dozer and Jason for their
stunning welcomes. I am overjoyed to take over this job and return Arizona back to their glory years. I would also like to say that from what I have heard the Arizona Diamondbacks’ fans are the best in the league. You had to go through rough times last year with injuries and a number of hitting slumps from the whole team. Well, as next general manager of the Diamondbacks, I would like to say that I will put forth every effort to bring back winning baseball to Phoenix. While I am here you will see variety of teams. I want to build my offensive team around speed, power, speed, and oh yeah, speed. If my guys can get into scoring position, they will be easier to drive in and we won’t have to rely on the homerun ball as much. On the pitching and defensive side of things, the number one priority will be range and defense up the middle of the field. In the outfield I want to have good arms and at catcher I want to be able to throw out the guy stealing the majority of the time. My pitchers will be groundball and control pitchers. I would love to have strikeout pitchers but with the defense we’ll have hear that won’t be a problem. As you see I want to build this team in a cheap way which is defense. I want to be able to recreate the minor league system in Arizona so that when we don’t have players at the major league level, we can always have something to lean back on. In a dynasty, unless you’re the Yankees, teams always have to have depth in their minor league systems and that is something we don’t have right now. It will take a few years to build, but after a couple of drafts and a few trades it will be headed in the right direction. As for my staff I will inform you when the staff is complete and you will know the Arizona front office thoroughly. Again, I would like to thank the Arizona organization and the Boston Red Sox for creating this incredible opportunity for me.
