17th September 1886 - MSG
WBF Heavyweight Final Eliminator
Bob Fitzsimmons (13-1) V George Godfrey (10-6)
The fighters met for the fourth time. It was 3-0 to Fitzsimmons, two by KO and one by stoppage. Both entered the ring in excellent condition with strong rumours that if Fitz lost he would drop down to the middleweight division.
The prolific Fitzsimmons KO'd George Godfrey for the third time after 2:28 of round 3. Fitzsimmons once again dominated the fight with his harder punching before landing a right hand combination which ended the bout.
Fitzsimmons will now get a chance to regain his World Heavyweight title before year end.
