1906 World Series

BOX SCORES

The Cubs and Pilgrims faced each other in a rematch of last season's World Series. The Cubs got on the board first with a 4th inning run off Ralph Glaze. They added two more runs in the 7th on a Johnny Evers double. But in the bottom of the 7th, five straight Pilgrims reached base against Fred Glade with two outs. They scored 3 runs in the inning to tie the score. In the very next inning, Chicago retook the lead when Frank Chance drew a leadoff walk, stole 2nd and advanced to third on a bad throw from Osee Schreckengost, then scored on a Zaza Harvey sac fly. The Cubs won 4-3.

Ed Reulbach and Norwood Gibson faced off in Game 2. Both teams scored in the 6th inning and they score was tied 2-2. It went into extra innings and the Cubs won after Bill Dahlen hit a pinch hit RBI single with 2 outs in the top of the 10th off Gibson.

Back in Chicago, Joe Harris and Charlie Lundgren surpassed the Game 2 pitching duel with a 9-inning duel shutout. In the top of the 10th, the Pilgrims exploded for 4 runs and won their first game of the series. Game 4 was equally as exciting. The score was tied 1-1 after 4 innings, and it stayed that way until the Cubs scored 2 runs in the 8th and won 3-1.

Game 5 may have been the grandaddy of them all. Again the score was tied 1-1 after 4 innings, and neither team scored for another 11 innings. In the bottom of the 15th, Chicago's Bill Bradley hit a 1-out triple off Buttons Briggs and scored on a single from Frank Schulte, winning the game and the series for the Cubs.
