The race for the American League pennant has actually been quite exciting. The Tigers led for some time, then dropped back and allowed the Philadelphia Athletics, New York Highlanders and the surprising Boston Pilgrims to pass them in what has become a tight 4 team race. While the Athletics lead now, by the time the end of the season comes, it could be anyone's guess on who will finish on top.

In another bit of shock, the National League has not nearly been as close as most thought it was going to be. While the Phillies and Pirates are head and shoulders above most of the other teams right now, the Cincinnati Reds seem to have not been able to recover from the shock of just missing out on the title last season. As it stands right now, it appears that Major League Baseball could be headed for an inter-city World Series to start this new tradition.

Dieter has been solid so far this season, adding a little pop to his already growing hitting abilities. He has yet to make a single error in the outfield, and while the Cubs aren't exactly the top of the National League, with Kahle's help, they may get there soon enough.

Clive, who started the season very well, has tailed off of late. He's said to some people that it may be due to the fact that St. Louis is currently on a 10 game losing streak. The Cardinals, who are again in last place, are hoping to be able to make their young star happier in these tough times.

The Beaneaters are again struggling, but Chief is doing all that he can. Some more run support, as well as some help in the pitching staff, would certainly improve his record.

While Brown's numbers have not been overwhelming, very little about Chicago has been. They are currently the worst team in all of baseball, and at least Brown has shown the endurance to go the distance in almost all of his games, throwing 15 complete games in 17 starts. He will get better with the team.
