McAuliffe outslugs Hanlon
I am going to list the before and after rankings now on the fight cards listed as (before/after) all rankings will be the WBA rankings unless it's a title fight for another organization. Also I will list my scorecard on the fights I watch in bold.
January 28, 1910
Jack McAuliffe (CH) (33-5-2) found himself in a slugfest but pulled out a UD15 over Eddie Hanlon (1/2) (12-4-1).
It looked like it would be an early night for the champ when he dropped Hanlon in the 3rd. Hanlon was then beaten senseless on the ropes until the bell rang. McAuliffe came out swinging in round 4 but was careless and got rocked and then dropped midway through the round. The next 5 rounds were back and forth action with Hanlon's mouth starting to bleed in the 7th.
The champ took control of the fight then winning the 10th through the 12th and then dropping Hanlon again in the 13th. Hanlon wasn't done yet as he dropped McAuliffe yet again in the 14th.
The two slugged it out toe to toe through the bell of the 15th. An early candidate for fight of the year.
I had it 144-139. Aurelio Barrios, ringside, had it 144-138. The official judges all had it 143-139.
On the undercard
FW - Jimmy Briggs (6/3) (13-10-5) UD10 Ben Jordan (10/22) (10-4-3) (Jordan was at pre, Jordan was straight robbed in this fight I had it 97-94 for jordan and the ringside expert had it 97-93 for Jordan yet all three official judges scored it 96-94 for Briggs)
FW - Kid Broad (42/44) (12-8-1) KO10 Martin Flaherty (35/45) (8-11-3)
LH - Patsy Cardiff (9/4) (13-12) UD10 James Barry (20/24) (9-7-1) (barry at pre)
WW - Sammy Smith (23/16) (8-6-3) UD10 Cy Flynn (28/29) (9-7) (both fighters at pre)
HW - Jack Stelzner (club) (18-22-4) SD10 Tug Wilson (club) (13-20-1) (stelzner at post, Wilson at end for this club fight)
