No! No! No! Exactly the opposite. I said keep him out because his teammates were very good and his team still couldn't win with him in the lineup.
What's missing from Santo is
greatness. It was mentioned above that Santo did well in MVP voting, but did he really? When he made the list, there were still usually 2-3 other NL third basemen ahead of him, including such luminaries as Deron Johnson, Jim Ray Hart and Mike Shannon. Santo simply was not
great.
