WBF to stage Pro/Amateur Tournament
The International Olympic Committee has approached the WBF and asked them to host a Pro/Am Tournament next year, with a view to Boxing taking it's place on the Olympic stage at some further date.
It is believed that each country will stage internal trials with the relevant Champions being asked to represent their countries in the tournament. It has been proposed that the following weight classes will be up for grabs.
Heavyweight
Middleweight
Welterweight
Lightweight
Featherweight
Bantamweight
The bouts will be 3 round affairs.
Current professionals will be invited to take part, along with seasoned amateurs, although there will be no monetary value to the winners.
Rumours are circulating that current retired WBF Commissioner John L Sullivan may come out of retirement to take part in the event. The WBF stated that they will make a further announcement in November.
