May 20, 1910

The commissioner of the LBA (Me) decided this would be the first 12 round fight in about 2 years. Top ranked guys have avoided each other for a while (or I just got lazy whatever ). It was good thing for Jack Dempsey NP (5/1) (35-5), because he would have lost after 10 rounds.

Instead he scored a TKO11 over Billy Papke (1/2) (19-3). Papke suffered a bad cut over his right eye in the second round. His corner did a great job on it as it was only re-opened once in the 6th, and didn't factor into the out come of the fight. It was a close fight with Papke dominating the first 5 rounds and then Dempsey coming back in the late rounds.

Dempsey went down early in the 10th and Papke swarmed all over him. Dempsey went down a second time with still a minute to go, but managed to hold on to get out of the round. Papke sensed the kill and went after Dempsey in the 11th, but got careless and took a hard right hand that dropped him for an 8 count. He was nearly defenseless and Dempsey pounded him for another minute before the ref stopped the bout.

I had it 96-92 papke at the stoppage.

On the undercard

FW - Charles Slusher (21/21) (9-5-2) DRAW10 Thomas Palmer (31/31) (17-19-3) (slusher at pre, Palmer at post)

LH - Jim Dunn (15/11) (12-6-1) UD10 Jack Welsh (16/22) (10-5-4) (both at pre)

FW - Eddie Lenny (47/31) (11-7-4) UD10 Chris Tucker (28/32) (12-4) (tucker at pre)

MW - Jack Smith (UR) (7-3-1) SD8 Johnny McGlade (club) (17-22-3) (smith at pre, mcglade at end for this club fight)

BW - Steve Flanagan (UR) (10-1) UD8 Jimmy Brackett (UR) (7-7) (both at pre for this club fight, flanagan moves to main with the win)
The man is unstoppable, you just can't beat Jack Dempsey he's the greatest fighter ever....... along as there is not title on the line cause then he's almost helpless.
