Corbett hands Johnson his 3rd loss
I am going to list the before and after rankings now on the fight cards listed as (before/after) all rankings will be the WBA rankings unless it's a title fight for another organization. Also I will list my scorecard on the fights I watch in bold.
August 14, 1910
James Corbett (4/CH) (31-8-3) finally broke through and took the IBF Heavyweight title via a controversial SD15 over champ Jack Johnson (CH/2) (37-3)
It was a pretty close fight throughout and many at ringside felt the champ had done enough to keep his title. There was no cuts, knockdowns or even swelling.
Johnson landed more punches but Corbett was more accurate.
I had it 145-143 Johnson. Jim Trunzo, ringside, had it 146-141 Johnson. The official judges had it 143-146/145-143/145-144.
The LBA has decided against a mandatory rematch as they ruled the fight was close enough to go either way.
