MOLK OVERWHELMED BY
RECEPTION IN JOHANNESBURG

Monday 29 April 2002

Having arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa early Saturday morning, International Boxing League Chief Director James Molk spoke today of the incredibly positive welcoming he and his fellow IBL representatives have received.

"I'm really just blown away by the reception they've given us," said Molk, during an interview at Johannesburg's Parktonian All-Suite Hotel. "There's so many people here excited about what boxing is going to do for this country and the continent. It's just made me even more enthusiastic about next week's trials."

Molk had said in recent days that each weight division in the IBL will have an African region in the World Championship qualifying tournament, with South Africa likely to make a significant contribution.

"The HBF has already given everyone a look at the boxing talent that Africa possesses," he said. "The International Boxing League will do the same thing, I'm sure."

Besides South Africa, the IBL's African selection trials will cover Nigeria, Congo, Ghana, Zambia and Egypt during the coming six weeks.

"I'm really looking forward to it," said Molk. "What we'll be doing here is creating a new sporting league from the ground up. We're going to discover athletes who, without the IBL, might never have their talents exposed. I'm not afraid to say that it's a great thing we're doing."
