Recap: Carl Hubbell was the King of the Hill in the first game of the 1902 World Series at the Polo Grounds in New York. He totally stopped the Philadelphia A's on just 4 singles. He was backed up by excellent hitting from Martin Dihigo (.750/1/2) with 3-4, a 2-run homer and 3 runs scored. Freddie Lindstrom (.500/0/1] was 2-4 with an RBI...was was Alvin Dark (.500/0/1). Mel Ott (.250/0/1) had the game's other RBI. Lindstrom also starred in the field as he started 3 double plays. The Athletics' offense was anemic and no one got as far as second base. Lefty Grove, a 20-game winner in the regular season did not fare very well. The Giants slammed him around pretty well.
In Game Two, it will be Christy Mathewson (19-4 3.72) for New York and Ed Plank (15-9 3.81) for Philadelphia.
