Access isn't a proprietary format and you can export the tables to Excel if you wish. Doing so disables the MLE creation without which you just get raw minor league numbers and from past experience with version 6.5 I know you need "major league equivalences" for the Lahman style import to put players at the level they should be. The database contains both the real and the massaged numbers so you can do what you wish with/to them.
