WWBU Monthly November 1903
WWBU Monthly,
Volume 20, November 1903
Welterweight WWBU champion Packy McFarland will take on the tough Victor Martinez in a title defense this month. Martinez has shown some boxing ability so far in his career, however he has never defeated another member of the top ten. That fact coupled with his lack of power (4 stoppages in 17 wins), leads experts to predict McFarland to retain comfortably.
On the under card of that match however the still agitating Sharmba Mitchell is looking to push for a rematch with McFarland with a bout against the eighth ranked Jimmy Leto. Mitchell has been vocal in his desire to get the reigning champ back in the ring and has stated that should he get the chance he would dance rings around McFarland. Leto is no push over, but does not seem to have the class or skill to truly test Mitchell.
The WWBU Lightweight Title Tournament final has been delayed to December to allow Hlatshwayo to recover from his grueling match with Larry Boardman. Hlatshwayo suffered a knock down and 2 nasty cuts above both eyes before knocking out Boardman in the seventh round of the bruising encounter. McAuliffe is said to have been disappointed in the decision to delay the bout but is said to be as prepared for this bout as he has been for any other bout in his career.
