Prior Easily Wins West Golden Arm Award
Southern California right-hander Mark Prior easily won the All-American Baseball League West Golden Arm award.
Prior led the entire AABL with 23 wins. The right-hander, who posted a 23-8 record win 37 starts, struck out a league-high 288 batters in just 243 innings. Prior walked just 88 hitters while opponents hit just .184 against him. His 2.41 ERA was second only to Arizona State's Paul Moskau (2.35).
"This award means a great deal to me," said Prior. "I could not have done it without my teammates."
Prior, 11-2 at home, finished well ahead of award runner-up Oval Overall of Cal. Overall was 20-9 with a 2.42 ERA, good for third best in the AABL West.
Barry Zito, Prior's teammate at USC, placed third in the voting. The left-handed Zito was 19-7 with a 2.67 ERA.
