Florida State, Mississippi State Headline East Gold Glove Team
The All-American Baseball League's East Gold Glove team has a definite Southern influence. Florida State placed two players from its infield and a pair of Mississippi State outfielders made the list.
Short stop Dick Howser and third baseman Jody Reed were the two Seminoles selected.
"Any time a ball was hit to the left side of our infield we felt pretty confident," said Florida State manager Mike Martin.
Meanwhile, center fielder Del Unser and right fielder Adam Piatt represented the Bulldogs.
"Defense is a big part of the game, and those both Del and Adam are excellent outfielders," said Mississippi State manager Ron Polk.
Below is a complete list of the East Gold Glove recipients:
P-Jim Burton, Michigan
C-Brad Ausmus, Ivy
1B-Dan Masteller, Michigan State
2B-Warren Morris, LSU
SS-Dick Howser, Florida State (shown below)
3B-Jody Reed, Florida State
LF-Hal Morris, Michigan
CF-Del Unser, Mississippi State
RF-Adam Piatt, Mississippi State
