West Gold Glove Team Gives San Diego State Something to Smile About
It was a miserable season for San Diego State. Losers of 118 games, the Aztecs had little to cheer about. But with the announcement of the All-American Baseball League West Gold Glove team, San Diego State fans suddenly have something to smile about.
First baseman Mark Grace and second baseman Pete Coscarart were selected as Gold Glovers, honoring them for their fielding excellence.
"It's a real honor to win this award," Grace said. "To me, playing good defense is just a satisfying as getting a hit."
Grace knows a little about hitting; he finished third in the West batting race with a .317 average.
"He knows a little about playing defense too," said Coscarart. "He really helped me out this season."
The West Gold Glove team is listed below:
P-Bill "Bugs" Werle, Cal
C-Mickey Tettleton, Oklahoma State
1B-Mark Grace, San Diego State
2B-Pete Coscarat, San Diego State
SS-Shane Turner, Cal State Fullerton (shown below)
3B-Grady Hatton, Texas
LF-Pete Laydon, Texas
CF-Oddibe McDowell, Arizona State
RF-Dave Stegman, Arizona
