Miami: The Good, The Bat and The Ugly

The following is No. 9 of a 20-part series reviewing the 2006 All-American Baseball League. Each feature will focus on one team. It will include the following sections: The Good (highlighting a team strength), The Bat (highlighting a hitting star) and the Ugly (lowlighting a team shortcoming). It will also include the team Most Valuable Player and a final hitting and pitching statistical report.

Miami Hurricanes
AABL East, 100-62, 2nd Place

The Good: Miami was 55-26 (.679) after the All-Star break.

The Bat: Mid-season call-up Mike Piazza hit .277 with 14 home runs and 51 RBIs in just 267 at-bats.

The Ugly: Outfielder Pat Burrell struck out an East-high 167 times in 528 at-bats.

Team MVP: Alex Fernandez, Pitcher. Fernandez (shown below) finished runner-up for the East Golden Arm Award. He was 22-6 with a 2.79 ERA.
