San Diego State: The Good, The Bat and The Ugly
The following is No. 11 of a 20-part series reviewing the 2006 All-American Baseball League. Each feature will focus on one team. It will include the following sections: The Good (highlighting a team strength), The Bat (highlighting a hitting star) and the Ugly (lowlighting a team shortcoming). It will also include the team Most Valuable Player and a final hitting and pitching statistical report.
San Diego State Aztecs
AABL West, 44-118, 10th Place
The Good: Right-handed starter Aaron Harang won three of his last four decisions to give hope for the future.
The Bat: First baseman Mark Grace finished third in the West batting chase with a .317 average. His 168 hits was the sixth best total.
The Ugly: One hundred and eighteen losses and near the bottom of virtually every pitching and hitting category.
Team MVP: Mark Grace, First Base. Grace (shown below) was snubbed for the All-Star Game. Most likely, he'll find his way into the Midsummer Classic in the coming years.
