Arizona: The Good, The Bat and The Ugly

The following is No. 14 of a 20-part series reviewing the 2006 All-American Baseball League. Each feature will focus on one team. It will include the following sections: The Good (highlighting a team strength), The Bat (highlighting a hitting star) and the Ugly (lowlighting a team shortcoming). It will also include the team Most Valuable Player and a final hitting and pitching statistical report.

Arizona Wildcats
AABL West, 76-86, 7th Place

The Good: The Wildcats led the AABL with 46 stolen bases.

The Bat: Second baseman Jason Bates hit .286 with 17 home runs and 74 RBIs. Bates also scored 85 runs. Bates was eighth among West doubles leaders (33) and ninth for on-base percentage (.386).

The Ugly: The pitching staff ranked 19th in home runs allowed (160) and 18th in both team ERA (3.85) and runs yielded (690).

Team MVP: Trevor Hoffman, Closer (shown below). This All-Star selection led the West with 30 saves.
