Bristol, Conn.--With just over one month gone in the All-American Baseball League season, five teams are within three games of first place.

"This season has been exciting and competitive," said Ivy manager Bob Seddon. "It looks like it will be close all year long."

Mississippi State manager Ron Polk added, "I agree with Bob. That's great for the fans, and that's great for the league as a whole."

Both defending champion Ivy and Michigan have lost three straight games and come back to the pack. Meanwhile, Minnesota has reeled off five consecutive wins and moved to within a game of the top spot. The Golden Gophers are tied with Mississippi State. Miami, 15-14, is just three games back.

"You can go down the standings and everybody feels like they're in the race," said Polk. "Even teams like Notre Dame and Michigan State have reasons to believe."

Fighting Irish manager Pat Murphy agrees.

"We're not that far behind, and we have not even come close to playing our best baseball," Murphy said. "It's exciting."
