That's just the way the game handles it. That's why there's a button on the individual strategy page for never pinch hit with him if tired, because it doesn't register his rest.
It's not right, it should take into account the fact that the guy didn't do anything but walk to the plate and give him his days rest... it also should count something if you put him in as a DH instead of the position, not as much as having the day off but still something beneficial... but it doesn't.
Think this'll have to go up as a hope it gets better in the next version thing...
