Both of my parents, and my grandparents, and as far as know, my great-grandparents are from Southern WVA. Even though I was born and raised in North Carolina, I still claim some WV heritage ... I checked out Homer Hickam's book called The Coalwood Way from the library a few years back (actually the book on tape) and listened to it about 3-4 times. I could almost see everything he was describing since my dad grew up in a similar town.
There is something special about those types of places despite some of the misery associated with trying to make a living there...
