Even when I was playing OOTP 6, I had some anomolies like that as well. Cy Young didn't get to 200 wins and Cobb was a career .304 hitter, though he did hit .394 one season. Most of his early years of hitting .270 pulled down his career average, since I think he hit over .350 3 times.

I've learned not to really expect 'real' statistics, since the dynamic of the teams in my league are changed from real life. I usually let the AI make their own trades and each year's first-year player draft is a true draft and I don't assign rookies to their real life teams. Christy only won 250 games in my sim because the Giants didn't have Mugsy McGraw around to pull all of the best players over to New York. Team dynamics have a huge effect on things I think.

In OOTP 2006 recently, I had King Kelly retire at age 28 for no apparent reason. One day I looked in the retired players list and there he was, 0 for all his ratings and all. And he was coming off a decent year... .312 average or so. Maybe he fell off a mule and hit his head, or fell over the Niagara Falls bridge like Ed Delahanty. I miss the days of guys going on the DL because of a bar fight in OOTP 6! I haven't seen any of those in 2006 yet...lots of torn MCL's and Ruptured Disk Back's though.

John McGraw missed a chunk of the 1903 season as manager when Dummy Taylor pegged him in the face with a baseball in warmups, so hey, anything could happen back then. Heck, maybe diptheria got the King for all I know.
