November 1960

Nurnberg, Germany - For men came to compete for the newly formed German Heavyweight belt and when the dust settled Karl Mildenberger was the last man standing. The German Championship came down to Wilhelm Von Homburg 6-0 (5) versus Karl Mildenberger 6-0-1. The bout was scheduled for 12 rounds which favored Mildenberger who had gone the distance in all of his fights whil Von Homburg had knocked out 5 of his 6 opponents by the 4th round. From start to finish Mildenberger dominated Von Homburg by keeping the slugger at a distance. The first 8 rounds were all scored 10-9 in Mildenberger's favor. The plodding Von Homburg only connected on 25% of his punches while Mildenberger was far more accurate hitting connecting 54% of the time. Von Homburg picked up two of the last fours rounds but it was too little too late. All judges scored the fight in Mildenberger's favor giving him the Unanimous Decision and the GPBA belt.
