The move to rename the Big Stick Award after Sam Crawford picked up more steam. The Flagstaff outfielder won the honor for the fifth time in the six-year history of the AZL. Crawford hit 31 bombs this year (league record) while batting .289. He added 24 doubles, along with 106 runs scored. He was 7th in the Northern in batting, 1st in homeruns and 1st in RBI.

The Southern Rookie of the Year winner was announced today, with Tombstone's pitcher Irv Higginbotham earning the trophy for putting up the best numbers. Opposing players hit just .229 against Irv this season. While posting an ERA of 2.84 he went 22-17 in 40 starts, fanning 91 and walking 73 hitters. He had 35 complete games, 4 shutouts and one no-hitter (nice job for a rook). He was 10th in the Southern in ERA and 5th in wins!
