Crash on manual player imports

After a couple of days of searching with different terms, I still can't find any threads about this. If it's already logged and I just missed it, I apologize.

Anyway, I've been having this problem since buying the game. Whenever I attempt to import a historical player from the database, the game crashes. I go to the transactions screen, to the free agents tab, and click on the import historical player button at the bottom of the screen. I then enter the guy's code (the one that consists of the first five letters of his last name, the first two of his given name, and a two digit number), the year, select the options I want (base ratings on peak seasons, etc.), and click the import button. The game begins loading the database, reaches the 80% mark, and crashes. I receive the following message:

Quote:
ootp2006.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.

When I click the link, I get this information:

Error Signature
AppNameotp2006.exe AppVer:1.0.0.0 ModNameotp2006.exe
ModVer: 1.0.0.0 OffSet:0033c3fd

The technical information is quite technical, but if it is needed I can recreate the error and give it to you.

There's two things that strike me as odd about this: First, the game has no problem importing players from the database as a season advances. It only happens when I try to import someone manually. Second, the error information says I'm using version 1.0.0.0, but I have the latest version installed, and it shows as being version 1.0.2.12262 when I open the game.

I've tried two different databases. I've tried placing the database in the SI/OOTP2006/database/stats folder ( I think that's correct; anyway, the folder names "stats") that's recommended in the manual or game guide, and I've tried placing it outside of the SI folder altogether, and pointing to it there. I've tried unlicensing, uninstalling, reinstalling, and relicensing the game. Frankly, I don't know what else to try.

Help?
