Cottonwood Monsoon sweeps Kayenta Turquoise Warriors, 4-0
Kayenta's first trip to the post-season ended in disappointment. But the Warriors played the Monsoon much closer than the final series score might indicate. Kayenta just struggled at the plate in clutch situations.
Game One went to Cottonwood 2-1.
Jack Coombs pitched a four-hitter for the Monsoon.
Harry McInytre then tossed another four-hitter for Cottonwood in Game Two, a 2-0 win for the 'Soon.
Game Three was the backbreaker. Kayenta had a 4-3 lead in the top of the ninth, and pitcher
Nap Rucker had secured the first two outs. But
Bris "The Human Eyeball" Lord got aboard and then young catcher
Bruno Block ripped a triple to bring Lord home for a 4-4 tie. Heartbreak!
The Monsoon went up 5-4 in the 10th, but the Warriors responded with a run-tying play as well, but they couldn't push one more run across to win it then.
Finally, in the top of the 12th Cottonwood scored again on a home run from 1B
Harry "Jasper" Davis. Davis had been 1-for-12 in the playoff series up to that point. The 6-5 defeat in 12 innings put Kayenta down 3-0 in the series, a much tough hole to climb out of mentally than 2-1. Cottonwood won the finale 2-1, getting runs in the fifth and sixth innings...

But Yuma responded with three straight victories, beating Tempe 6-3 in Game Two, 9-1 in Game Three and 3-1 in Game Four. Joss was a completely different pitcher in Game Four, coming back with a two-hitter to shut down the Devils.
Tempe stayed alive with a Game Five win, 4-2 -- pounding out 14 hits. But Yuma ended the series with a 3-2 decision in Game Six. The Prisoners only needed five hits to win it, leading off with a homer from SS
Freddy Parent. RF
