USC Sets Win Record on Final Day; Moskau Wins 23rd for ASU

October 5, 2007

Los Angeles--It took until the final day of the regular season but the Southern California Trojans won their record 114th game of the year.

Left-hander Randy Johnson (13-4) tuned up for the College World Series with a seven-strikeout performance in seven innings as USC cruised past Arizona 7-1. Dave Kingman slugged his career-high 41st home run for the Trojans.

"We wanted the record of 114 wins," said Kingman (shown below). "Sure, winning the College World Series means more, but this is important too."

The old record was 113 victories by Arizona State set a season ago.

Moskau Notches 23rd Win
Fullerton, Calif.--Arizona State right-hander Paul Moskau won his 23rd game of the season, tying him with Jim Barr of USC for the most victories.

Moskau tossed a three-hit complete game as the Sun Devils routed Cal State Fullerton 9-2. Moskau finished the year with a 23-6 record and a 2.15 ERA. Both Moskau and Barr equaled the AABL record set by Mark Prior a year ago.

Arizona State wound up with 110 wins, yet finished four games behind West champion USC. Moskau was backed by with home runs by Bob Horner (his 40th), Rick Monday (17) and two by Reggie Jackson (36). The pair by Jackson gave the Sun Devil right fielder 100 RBIs for the season.
