October 22nd, League Championship Series, Game 7

Mustangs win to head to World Championship Series
Detroit Mustangs 5
Chicago Storm 1

In front of a sold-out crowd at Tiger Stadium, Alonso Caprasquillo and the Detroit Mustangs went out and shut down the Chicago Storm to head to the World Championship Series with a 5-1 victory. Caprasquillo shook off a shaky first inning, but quickly settled down, and mowed down Chicago hitters. He pitched a complete game 5 hitter, striking out 6, and only yielding a first inning run. The 21 year-old lefty has pitched like an ace all season, winning 19 games with a 2.58 ERA in the regular season, and improving his postseason record to 4-0 with a 2.63 ERA.

Doyle Alexander took the loss for the Chicago Storm, pitching 7 1/3 innings, while giving up 5 runs on 13 hits and 4 walks. He finished the postseason with a 1-2 record, and a 4.24 ERA.

Mickey Rivers got the Mustangs started in the first with an RBI double. For the game, Rivers went 2-5 with 1 RBI. Tommy McCraw hit the games only homer, while going 3-5 with an RBI. All the Mustangs except Gwang-soo Kim added at least one hit in the game, but the Mustangs did strand 14 runners on base.

Detroit Manager Ralph Houk was pleased with the win, but stressed the team must be prepared, “While we are relieved to win tonight’s game, our work isn’t done. We will be facing a tough team, who is playing very good baseball right now. We can’t continue to leave men on bases. We need to do the little things better, to move runners over, and score some more runs.”
