The seven contestants signed for the Global Fighting Championships [GFC], are as follows:
Mark 'The Hammer' Coleman: An amatuer wrestler [freestyle], from Columbus, OH, Coleman is a former NCAA champion and has also represented the US in the Olympics, finishing seventh.
Don 'The Predator' Frye: From Siesta, AZ, Don Frye has represented Arizona State in both Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling.
Rickson Gracie: A member of the renowned Gracie family from Brazil, Rickson is a blackbelt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Ken Shamrock: Aformer proffesional wrestler from Macon,GA, Shamrock is an accomplished martial artist who admits the martial arts saved him from going to the state pen by giving him something to channel his aggression into.
Maurice Smith: Mo Smith is a former WKA kickboxing champion at both heavyweight and light-heavyweight, from Seattle, WA.
Mario 'The Zen Machine' Sperry: One of the greatest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighters of all time.
Oleg Taktarov: A Sambo/Judo practitioner from Russia.
STYLES
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: A modern style of Jiu-Jitsu created by the Gracie family, which relies primarily on ground work techniques and joint locks.
Judo: This grappling style is based on the techniques of Jiu-Jitsu. Judo uses various throwing techniques, and a variety of grappling techniques.
Kickboxing: Kickboxing combines elements of Karate and Muay Thai, and because it is a realistic, practical method of fighting, it is a popular sport. The goal is to knock out the opponent, so strikes are delivered full force.
Sambo: A modern style of wrestling from Russia, that was influenced by Eastern wrestling and other sports.The goal is to immobilize an opponent through a jointlock. Throws and takedown techniques are also important.
Wrestling: Originated from Ancient Greece, a hand to hand fighting stlye, broken down into the following:
Greco-Roman: No grabs below the waist.
Freestyle: Grabs below the waist, but not below the knees.
