News of the Ring
Over the last few days, several well-known fighters have announced their retirement, including, Jack Gagnon, Walter Cobb, Billy Miske and Jack Delaney. Many observers think that the presence of Joe Louis on the scene may have something to do with it.
New guys battling their way up: Tommy Farr (7-0), Mickey Walker (10-0-1), Tomas Gomez (10-1-0), Arturo Godoy (10-1-1) alongwith a crowd of pork & beaners.
The EBU is starting to put pressure on Max Schmeling to defend his title or at least begin negotiations with a future opponent. Frenchman Andre Lenglet is the Number 1 contender at the moment, followed by Luigi Musina and Walter Neusel. Schmeling's people are angling for a crack at World title holder Phil Scott, and may just end up vacating the European championship.
In a wire from their London headquarters, the British Empire Boxing Commission has agreed to allow Angus Snyder time to recover from a hand injury, but expect him to sign contracts soon to meet either Tiger Warrington or Tom Heeney in defence of his Empire championship belt. (Note. A lucrative contract to meet Tom Heeney was signed that very afternoon, with Snyder sporting a small plaster on the knuckles of his right hand.)
