The League of Unusual Gentlemen
Halifax - It has come to the attention of the Chronicle's sports department that a couple of ivy-league pantywaists out of Princeton or Yale, burdened with too much money and too little sense, attempted some weeks ago to form a professional boxing league along the lines of team games such as polo and darts. The addled-pated collegians spent mountains of cash trying to attract top-level fighters to their six-team league, boxers willing to "play" a regular slate of weekly bouts. Much to their chagrin, and the hilarity of the real sports in town, they ended up with a handful of amateurs, failed pros and tavern brawlers and the entire enterprise collapsed before the first round of "games could be played". Perhaps their fathers should have told them that boxers don't play.
