The smaller your league, the more fluctuation you'll get in the league leaders' numbers, simply because there's a smaller chance that at any given time there will be a guy in the league capable of hitting 45-50 homers, for example. In a 36-team league, you'd get 50-HR guys much more often. Just the law of averaged at work there.
