I also have been coding a new HOF program.

The rundown on how this will work is as follows:

At the end of the season, you run my program. It then looks at everyone that retires and adds them to the retired database. It will loosely decide if the player has a chance for the HOF. It will be simple checks, just to get rid of the no-gooders. It will check things like at bats, average, wins, etc. It will not get rid of anyone that has a possible change to make the HOF. Obviously, if a guy only played 7 seasons, he is not a HOF candidate.

Now, my program will remember what year this player retired and then 5 years later, he is eligible for the HOF. When you run my program, it will then find the people that are eligible for the HOF THIS year and do a couple things. For solo leagues, it will basically just let you preview each players career stats and then give it a HOF rating score. This is based on tons of stats, including; hits, power, speed, fielding, popularity, etc. You can then set the threshold on what score it takes to get in the HOF. This way, you can change things depending on what year you are in. You can also change the way the program awards the HOF points. So, in 1910, you can have triples worth a lot more than home runs, or average count much more than power. (Hopefully I can figure out a way to implement the modifiers to automatically adjust this).

The other plan for the solo leaguer would be for you to manually give them a score. Then once all of the scores have been assigned, you decide how many make the HOF this year. Rules would be in place to allow the people that did not make it to be on the ballet next year, if they get a certain amount of points.

Now for the online leagues. Of course, the commish can use either one of the above plans or he can use another plan that I am implementing. This would be a ballot that would be created and then could be sent to each team owner, who would vote on the players. The commish would enter the votes into the program and go from there.

I plan on doing some HTML pages also for the online league, a little Hall of Fame type section. I also see special members of the Hall of Fame, like managers, coaches, etc.

As you can tell, this is going to be a huge program, so it may be a week or so before I get around to getting it complete. I am currently coding the HOF point system, which is the most difficult part of the program, as it is going to be completely configurable, as shown:

This is the start of the INI file, so, if a player had 2550 hits, he would get 1 point. If he had 3005 hits, he would get 5 points, 4005 hits and he gets 13 points. Same thing with HRs, if he had 605 home runs, he would get 3 points. Other points included would be; All-star games, MVP awards, player of the week/month awards, hitting streaks, leader-board appearances, rank in the top 10 in categories, fielding, stealing.
