I have a similar crash when trying to quit the game... For me the progress bar gets to "Closing Database ... 94%" hangs for a bit and I get a Windows pop-up message "OOTP2007.exe has encountered a problem and must shut down" ... I have this exact same problem.. It has happened to me at least half a dozen times. As far as I can tell, the league saves properly and their are no problems.
My system:
Pentium 4 3GHZ
1.5 GB of Ram
20GB free HD Space
ATI Radeon X300 SE 128MB
