Huge Upset
February 16, 1912
Main Event
FW - Kid Herman Landfield (11/CH) (17-14-3) pulled off a huge upset scoring a SD15 over Johnny Kilbane (CH/3) (22-3-1) to win the WBC FW title.
Kilbane seemed to take control of the fight in the middle rounds winning the 8,9, and 10th, but then Landfield came back and took the 11th-14th. I thought with the champ bias set on the judges that Kilbane still might have pulled it off but he did not. There were no cuts or knockdowns.
I had it 143-142 Landfield, the official judges had it 141-144/144-142/143-142.
Regional Title
LH - Bob McAllister (10/7) (19-2) destroyed Mike Boden (17/23) (15-3-5) in route to a TKO4. Boden was down in the 3rd, had both eyes swelling shut and was cut over the right eye. I had it 29-27 at the stoppage.
Other fights
WW - Pat Bradley (UR) (7-0) (pre) scored an undeserved UD8 over Frank Solomon (club) (3-26-2) to remain unbeaten. Solomon won the last two rounds to take the fight in many observers eyes. I had it 77-76 Solomon, all three judges had it 77-76 the other way. Many boos were heard.
BW - Frankie Burns (18/16) (19-4-1) TKO6 Charley Kelly (17/20) (14-12-2)
BW - Harry Tenney (13/10) (21-8-3) KO2 Chappie Moran (21/28) (22-23-3) (moran at post)
MW - Bill Gabig (37/32) (15-1-3) UD10 Scaldy Bill Quinn (55/60) (14-16-2) (Quinn stepped up to WW for this fight)
