Kenny Pillsbury took a shutout into the ninth inning yesterday, but couldn't hold onto it in Denver's 5-3 loss to the Predators. With the Broncos leading 3-0, Pillsbury tired, gave up two runs, and left the game with two runners on base. Reliever Ramon Gomez was unable to pitch out of the jam, as he came in and immediately surrendered a 3 run homer to give Nashville the lead.

Tomas Sato and Ellis Bolling had strong games in the losing effort. Sato collected 3 hits, while Bolling tripled, homered, and scored two runs.

The Broncos erased an 11 run deficit in the final three innings yesterday, but lost to Nashville 15-13 in 11 innings.

Through the top of the 5th inning, the Broncos trailed 8-0, and by the top of 7th, the score was 13-2. In the bottom of the inning, Denver began their rally, scoring 5 runs. The Broncos added a run in the 8th inning to make the score 13-8 heading into the ninth. Denver scratched out 3 runs, and then, with 2 outs and a runner aboard, veteran DH Mark Bakke stepped to the plate. Bakke, who has been showing signs of his age this season, promptly blasted one into the bleachers to tie the game. The tie score lasted only until the 11th inning, when the Predators retook the lead for good.

Tomas Sato delivered 3 hits, and drove in 4 runs, while Alexis Vazquez woke up from his slump, collecting 3 hits, including his first homer of the year, and scored 4 runs.
