After recent games continued to highlight the ineffectiveness and unreliability of the Broncos' bullpen- manager John Wilkerson is turning to his starting pitchers for help now- General Manager John Mounts has pulled off a trade.
Coming to the Broncos is veteran right-hander
Steven Andrade from New Jersey. The 36 year old reliever has a 4.07 ERA in 36 appearances this season. Heading to New Jersey are relief pitcher
Roman Torre, with a 5.40 ERA in 10 games; infielder
John McQuillen, with a .567 OPS in 36 at bats; and minor league 1B
Herbert Lin.
The struggling New Jersey team was looking to unload Andrade's $5.1 million contract, and the desparate Broncos were just the team willing to take a chance. Mounts said that with the way the bullpen was playing, changes had to be made, and maybe a veteran like Andrade could settle some of the other pitchers down. Andrade's pricetag was not considered to be a concern by Mounts.
