WBA Title Fight
Champion Chuck "No Doubt" Norton, USA, 24-0-0 (23) vs #9 Harry Wills, USA, 13-1-0 (12)
Norton/Wills II. Norton wants to prove that the controversial stoppage wouldn’t have affected the eventual outcome of the previous fight with Wills. Many people believed that Norton was on the way towards his first pro defeat. Norton lands a crushing hook but it looks like Wills steals the round in the final ten seconds with a late flurry. Both fighters seemed dazed during the 2nd round but Wills outscores the champ, 17-11. Wills seems to be landing the more accurate punches but Norton’s are definitely harder. 3rd round is pretty even, 9-8 Norton. Round 4, 16-11, Norton. Norton lands a tremendous shot under the ribcage of Wills and the challenger is down at the 2:57 mark. Wills survives but had a lot of punishment, 29-3, that round and had developed a mouse under the right eye. Wills looks like he recovered from the last round and keeps it close in the 6th, 9-8. 14-10, Norton in the 7th. The champ explodes in the 8th, 21-9, as Wills looks fatigued from all the hard punches that he has absorbed. The ninth is a repeat of the eighth as “No Doubt” continues to pound on the swollen right eye, 19-3. Wills is floored at the 2:41 mark of the 10th. This is trouble for Wills with so much time left in the round and facing a finisher like Norton. And Wills is unable to survive after getting floored for the 2nd time. Winner and still WBA Champion, Chuck Norton by (KO10). Cards: 88-82, 87-82, 86-84, all in favor of Norton. Punch stats: 38.9% - 37.4% Norton.
