WBC Championship - Iron Scrapped
WBC Title Fight
Champion "Iron" Mike Tyson, USA, 18-1-1 (17) vs #18 Larry Holmes, USA, 18-2-0 (15)
Holmes’ best chance to dethrone the champ will be to use his jab and keep Tyson at a distance. Tyson does the most damage on the inside and likes to end fights early. Holmes is sticking to his game plan and is keeping busy using his jab for the first two rounds. Tyson is getting frustrated as Holmes is getting his punches off first. Tyson is unable to land more than one punch at a time and cannot get inside of Holmes’ straight left jab. Tyson wins his first round here in the 6th and hurts Holmes with a hard right hook. Holmes is not as active anymore and Tyson is getting inside the jab and defense of Holmes. Tyson seems to be coming on and wins his 2nd consecutive round. Holmes better be careful not to take too much punishment. Those hard blows will wear on you and slow you down. Holmes started quickly but has let Tyson back into this fight in these middle rounds. Holmes is having problems with his eyes as we enter the 13th. Both fighters look tired but the fight will go to the scorecards. 144-141, 143-142, 143-142, all in favor of the new WBC Heavyweight Champion of the World, Larry Holmes. (UD15). Punch stats: 35.6% - 50.4% Holmes.
