Action-packed fight, crazy finish...
Chris Arreola, Mexico, 10-5-1 (6) vs. Orlando Reverberi, 9-5-1 (6)
Arreola is making his first appearance since signing with a completely new team, The Villebillie Boxing Gym. Arreola is anxious to get started in a new direction and has been training with more focus and intensity. Round one is under way, and Arreola is stalking his opponent. Both men land some nice shots but Arreola is constantly pushing the action, 12-6. Pretty even round, 10-10, here in the 2nd. Reverberi needs to land some hard punches to get the attention of his opponent because Arreola continues to swarm all over him, landing 20-2, in the 3rd. The 4th and 5th rounds are filled with exchanges as neither fighter seems to be pacing himself. Arreola is cut here in the 5th under the right eye. There is some serious concern in the corner as his handlers are working to stop the bleeding. These middle rounds are too close to call. Arreola’s corner has done a good job of stopping the flow of blood. Reverberi is staggered here in the 7th but the time runs out of the round before Arreola can capitalize on the situation. Round 9, 8-4, for Arreola, as both fighters start to slow down, possibly from fatigue. Arreola lands a violent body shot and sends his opponent down with :15 seconds left in the 10th. The Argentinian is up and is able to finish the round. Arreola seems to be getting stronger as he continues to press the action in the 11th, 14-6. Another good round for Arreola, 12-4, in the 12th. Arreola is taking another round, but suddenly is hit by a wild overhand right that sends him to the canvas. He is up at the count of 9 and survives the last :15 seconds. That round could have a big effect on the outcome of the fight as we get set to enter the 14th. Reverberi sends Arreola down for the 2nd time in the fight with under 20 seconds left in the round. Arreola is up and allowed to continue. The last two rounds have definitely changed the momentum of the fight. Arreola is in big trouble as he gave up two consecutive 10-8 rounds. The fight has been filled with action all night long. Arreola doesn’t have the energy to land any punches here in the last round and now he has to hope that the work he did in the middle rounds can offset the two knockdowns that he suffered. The fight goes to the scorecards.
