I think an example of this is when J. Henry Waugh used to make a dice roll in his Universal Baseball Association to find out when retired ball players passed on.

It would help the immersion tremendously if some favorite player from forty years past cropped up in the news of your current year due to his passing. The news could even pick an old teammate at random to offer a comment on the death.

As with all the latest features, there could be a box to check for those who thought the death of players, even the retired ones, was too morbid a subject to think about.
