In this scenario, if your pitching coach is teaching the move to first to an 8-year veteran, the 3 attributes you add up are the Teach Pitching and Handle Players attributes for the coach and the Intelligence personality rating for the player. Then you consult the applicable chart and roll against it.
Once I get all this stuff written down, the next step is using my meager Python "skills" to make a program that does all that stuff for you.
