I don't think you have to have any of the stats but they will not be imported if you don't have them. You do need these:
yearID Year
lgID League
teamID Team
franchID Franchise (links to TeamsFranchise table)
divID Team's division
team full name
If you are doing MLB history and you want to change the structure then all you need to do is change the league and divisions to where you want them to be.
I am building a DB for an online league and I have the league history importing from this file. It's also important to have the franchise file filled out.
