AUHomerunDerby
Now if this does not sound like fun, then you need to get your funcells looked at.
I was inspired by the Homerun Derby, so I thought I would create one.
OK, here is how it works, or how I plan to make it work. I actually started some coding on it during the boriing moments of the All-Star game.
A couple of days before the all-star break, you do a CSV dump and then run my program. Now, you could run it anytime, but it is generally designed to be ran during mid season.
The program gathers the top 40 home run hitters for both leagues combined. Using different secret formulas, it starts to eliminate people from the competition. I am not sure how many people will be in the actually derby, but I am thinking 10.
I will be looking at several factors, which may or may not include; age, personality, power ratings, injury status.
Then once I have it down to 10 hitters, the program will run a home run derby. A random ballpark will be chosen each time you run it and the program will use the field distances in the calculation. I will come up with some secret formula that will be based on power ratings, maybe a little eye rating and maybe even give a home field advantage in there.
You will not actually see the home run derby, but instead, you will be shown the results. I am going to make it in a news article type format. Something like this:
Hank Aaron wins Home run Derby!
Hammering Hank hit 19 total home runs to over take Mickey Mantle to win the Home run Derby in Milwaukee today. Hank was down to his final out, but pulled it out.
Duke Snider had the most during round 1, but faded in round 2 to end up in 5th place behind Dale Long, who finished 3rd. Roger Maris finished in 3rd.
The following players did not make it to the 2nd round: list.....
Honorary Guest was Hall of Famer, Babe Ruth. Mr. Ruth, age 65, threw out the first pitch. (The program would randomly grab a HOF player, if they exist, and make him the guest, of course, checking his age. If he is too old, then we will honor a dead guy)
It will basically be a random type thing, but I will make it write it out to a standard SION web page, so online leagues could surprise their owners.
I want to make it have several different story formats, based on the amount of home runs, etc. I originally thought that it would be cool to have the program keep track of the stats from it, so it could say, 'Last Years winner was Bill Smith.
I have pretty much wrapped up the AUHistoryHint for now. I may tweak it here and there, but nothing major will change on it. I wanted to add the all-star history in there, but it is not easy to grab that information. I want to add some league history on former WS winners, etc., but never got to that. I could never really decide what to add from there.
So, I will twiddle around with this program, it is going to be a quick and dirty one, then I will go in feet first and finish AUHof.
And remember, Root for the Tigers!
