The pundits get it wrong very often.

I'd challenge you to find very many pundits in the early 90's, pre USA 1994, who proclaimed Gheorgi Hagi or Hristo Stoichkov the best or even near the best at their positions even though they are two of the greatest players ever. Conventiamal wisdom only goes so far in football.
