Remembering the Hall of Famers:Scott Border

Scott Border

In 2014, Scott Border became the first player inducted into the Hall of Fame. Throughout the first decade of the league's history, Border was the foremost slugger in the game, first with Portland, and then with Kansas City. In 2004, he became the first player to hit 60 or more homeruns in one season- he hit 62- and then collected 4 more 60 homerun seasons. Until 2081, no other player had ever hit 60 or more in multiple seasons (San Jose's Ugo Momoru became the second last season). In 2005, he posted a career high of 66 homeruns. That remained the NL's single season mark until Emmanuel Maxon hit 70 in the year 2030 while playing for San Diego. Maxon's record still stands today, though a few players have made serious runs at it. In 2007, playing with Kansas City, Border hit 62. That remained the AL's single season mark until Donald Murillo matched it in 2034 with Memphis. In 2074, Denver's own Ellis Bolling joined those two greats in holding the AL single season record.

In 2012, Border became the first player in league history to hit 500 homeruns. He would finish his career with 509. Border remained the career leader in HR until 2018, when Timothy Knight surpassed him. Although Border's career numbers were gradually left in the dust over the league's history- Border dropped out of the top 25 in homeruns in the year 2048- there are few hitters who matched Border's raw power. At his peak, Border's ability to hit homeruns has simply been unmatched by anyone. Additionally, Border's 6 Silver Slugger Awards are the most ever won by a player.

Although Border was not the greatest defensive SS in the league, he did, however, manage to snag a pair of Gold Glove awards, in 2009 and 2010.
