The Broncos made it to 6-0 before losing their first game of the season as Charlotte avoided the sweep. After a second straight loss, the Denver bats picked things up, scoring 28 runs over the next three games, all victories, and the Broncos improved their record to 9-2.
Alexis Vazquez gave the Broncos their second straight Player of the Week winner, as he went 10 for 23 with 5 homeruns, 11 RBI, and 7 runs scored. Vazquez is currently on a 12 game hitting streak and a 3 game HR streak.
Lee Chappel continued his torrid hitting, as well, going 9 for 20 with 5 doubles, 1 triple, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 6 runs scored, and 5 walks.
Mark Bakke had a good week. He went 7 for 24 with 2 HR and 8 RBI. Along the way, he also reached 2,000 hits for his career.
It wasn't all offense for the Broncos. Kenny Pillsbury improved to 3-0 on the year by winning both of his starts during the week with a 1.59 ERA.
In other news, Tomas Sato will be out of the lineup for about a week with a pulled abdominal muscle. Reliever Lyndon Gwinn has been sent to AAA, and infielder Patrick Chason has been called up to give the Broncos another hitter while Sato is on the shelf.
