The Broncos kicked off the second half of the season by pounding the Packers into the dust.
Tomas Sato went 5 for 6, with a double, a homerun, and
9 RBI in the 18-1 rout. He also scored 2 runs. After sweeping Green Bay, Denver ran into a little trouble with Knoxville, losing a couple of close games. They salvaged the third game of the series with the aid of
Ellis Bolling. Bolling blasted three homeruns in the game, and drove in 6 runs altogether in the 13-4 stomping. The Broncos finished up the week by opening a series against Miami with a win.
Bolling went the entire month of June without hitting a homerun. En route to winning AL Player of the Week, however, he went 13 for 28, with
8 homeruns this past week. He also doubled twice, drove in 17 runs, and scored 11 runs.
Sato's 9 RBI game wasn't his only contribution during the week. Overall, he went 14 for 28, with a double, 2 homeruns, and 15 RBI.
Russell Thomas added some offense, as well, going 11 for 29, with a double, a homer, 7 walks, and 9 runs scored.
On the pitching side of things,
Kenny Pillsbury went 2-0 in 2 starts, posted a 3.00 ERA, and had a 15/1 K/BB ratio in 15 innings pitched, while
Ray Lockridge went 2-0 in 2 starts, with a 2.51 ERA, and a 17/1 K/BB ratio in 14 1/3 innings pitched.
